Normal? Really?

July 31, 2020

I read an opinion article a couple of weeks ago and immediately I responded aloud and said, “Yes! Thank you!” It was not written by a big named expert of some kind. As a person, the author said that she could live to be 100 and social distance-ing will never be “normal.”

I would describe myself as an introvert. I recharge and regroup with alone, quiet time. It is a necessity for my well-being. However, I must be in community with people at all levels. I need people that I am close to and love dearly. I need new acquaintances that may or may not become close friends. I need those that annoy me or with whom I almost entirely disagree. I need those that I worship with and those that challenge my faith. Oh! And I need to see their entire face and, when appropriate, to bear hug their whole physical being! Anything short of that is not “normal.”

Honestly, I still don’t know how to really deal or not-deal with our world right now on July 31, 2020. But I do know that there is great sadness and suffering going on that is not virus related. And I reject the notion that keeping us apart will become a normal. Never. Ever.

Psalm 85 is my prayer this day.
